Are there GPS pet tracking devices that can be inserted under the skin?

gps
monic asked:

If so, how would I go about getting one and what are the prices like?

My concern is for people who steal dogs. I am aware of the collar which can be taken off and the microchip which can only help if the pet is scanned at an animal facility. Is there anyone who has heard of a gps system that can be inserted under the skin?

I don’t know but if it wouldn’t hurt the animal it is an excellent idea! pj

they are called microchips. any local vet will help you with this.

the vet gets the microchip number as do you. my vet used a microchip tracking through 24petwatch.com

i’ve also heard of microchips being used in ownership disputes (i.e. people who steal dogs). you can track the microchip, and also have the microchip number on file as well as with the vet, which is more than enough in a legal battle. no, its not a gps but it effectively does the same thing as you are asking for. and you can pay to get subscriptions so you can find them. The best thing that works is to be outside with your dogs, and have them in a locked house when you are gone. I’ve done this for 20 years, and never had a problem. I tell it like it is

There is currently not a G.P.S that accurately tracks dogs and their ware about. If they do come out with one it will be extremely expensive. Your looking at 3-5 thousand dollars. a G.P.S is not exactly cheep in its self and to make it small enough to fit into the skin with out causing a virus in the dog would be a lot more expensive than a regular G.P.S. Bre the microchip ID tags are NOT GPS tags.

To the OP no there are not. If you are that concerned don’t leave your dogs outside unsupervised, problem solved. Rayven ~ Here we Go Again

Funny how much people think Microchips are GPS.

There’s a GPS collar, not sure if it really works but eh. That answers your question. Skipper *BSL IS BS ITSELF*

    NOPE

Microchips are not GPS capable.. GPS technology is not that advanced yet to make it that small. Maybe someday in the future, but not at the moment.

You can get a GPS collar for your dog.. that is the only GPS system available to pet owners at his time. Bare Nekkid TRUTH!
