Despite owning three Magellan receivers, I heartily recommend the basic yellow Garmin eTrex-H. It is durable, inexpensive, and does a decent job of finding your location for you. The eTrex-H has much the same hardware as its more expensive brethren, but none of the bells and whistles (such as decent mapping). Surprisingly, Wal-Mart still sells them at the same $99 price that they used to sell the original eTrex for.

I'd also get a decent compass such as a Silva or Brunton, just in case the batteries die. ;-)<a href="http://www.supersportsstore.com/carabiners-quickdraws-and-belay-devices-7784"> Ernie</a>
