Me and my dad just went to Wal-mart and bought the cheapest hand held GPS we could find. It may not be the most accurate in the world, but it gets you close enough to the cache. Then you just have to use your intuition and experience to look for a good hiding spot. So far we have found every cache we have looked for. Honestly, searching for the hiding spot wouldn't be as fun if the GPS put you right on top of it.

This is what we have:
Garmin eTrex Legend Handheld GPS
wal-mart price = $100
