why do you have on big jets 3 IRS positions (left, middle, right) on your FMC, but only 2 GPS positions?

What are all the current reasons why our General Aviation system still uses airways?
I’ve actually flown as co-pilot into Opa Locka International from Jamaica before, but it was an IFR flight. There were customs and immigrations officers there.
