gps problem
Jeremy J. asked:

Hello,
I got FSX for PC, and instead of using ILS approach, I use GPS Approach, and when i’m about to land, the plane turns completely away from the runway, and trys to approach it again, but stalls out (I have it on autopilot to land). Im pretty sure the glideslope indicator is working good, but i kept trying to land with different runways after this happened, and it did the same thing. Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong? Or maybe someone can teach me ILS?

Please help

GPS approaches are designed to get you to a specific point so that you can complete the landing visually. Not guide you all the way to the runway.

An ILS approach is not that difficult. Get the ILS frequency and the heading and set this into your NAV 1 radio and the heading in your course indicator. If you re flying a light single you ll have an OBS.

In this picture – the OBS is right to the altimeter and left to the GPS.

See those needles? They must be at right angles to each other( kinda like in the picture) The Horizontal one is the glide slope, the vertical one the localizer. If the needle swings right, turn right to intercept it. When they align turn back and so on. If the Glide slope goes down, decrease throttle to descend at a faster rate.

I tried to explain as simple as possible, If you still cant get it e-mail me. Charles M

GPS does not use the glideslope signal from the airport. Instead, it uses its own altitude information received from the GPS satellites. While I have never tried a GPS guided autopilot landing on FSX, it sounds to me like the GPS is taking you down to decision height and then doing a missed approach. JetDoc

Turn off autopilot about 10 miles out and land it manually. Successful landings are the most challenging and fun parts of Flight Simulator. Pat S

Flight Simulator is a COMPUTER GAME, not a real aircraft. Your question does not belong in the TRANSPORTATION section. peedlepup
