How do GPS’s work, pricing wise? Like do you have to pay yearly, or only to update it?
In addition to some other stuff I want to get a GPS (specifically TomTom) on black friday. Aside from the inital purchase price do you have to pay for a GPS yearly or only when you update it and how do you update it?
also what do you think would be the best one for me to get

Once you buy a GPS, that’s it. No other mandatory fees.
But once in while, you should update your maps which does cost like $80 but it is not required. Also they have many things you can purchase like traffic alerts, new voices, new icons, etc on their website.
I haven’t updated my maps at all since I got my GPS and so far so good though my GPS gets confused in new developments or when there are new roads. It still thinks my street is a 2 way when it is actually one way. clayjar_azn
GPS devices will not cost you any additional money to find what you want like mobile gps will. The only cost that you will look to spend money on is the map updates. So please try to find a gps with free map updates. because map updates will cost you an arm and a leg. and it will frankly piss you off to find out that the map updates cost more than you will spend on your black friday sale tom tom. look for a gps with great customer support and free map updates.
i personally would strongly recommend a newelectronx navigator. free map updates and great customer service. also it is not made by a hungry company who believes that a gps needs to be made for every application. this gps can go in your car, go with you when you walk, hike, jog, mountain climb, motorcycle ride, semi truck drive, delivery driver, etc etc. it is kind of an all in one gps. others will sell you a gps for each purpose. you will end up with one gps for bike cycling and one for the car. anyways, hope this helps. also check on newelectronx website in the help section for quick questions like this or contact them directly. i am recommending them because i have had nothing but success since i have ordered my gps and i think they deserve the business for doing such a good job with me.
if you decide to go with tomtom then i wish you good luck, but keep in mind you wont have to pay anything for the searching and driving once you own the gps, ok. best of luck to you. Jeff Rivera
What you are buying is GPS device, which bringing the 3 axis co-ordinates. From which we have to locate it in a map or map software. Some vendors offering free (Google earth), some one time charge, some offer annual subscription, etc.,
You go through the specification thoroughly before buying the device. Maruff
try Amazon Black Friday deals, they start early this year Sarah
