how do you activate the free fm traffic subscription from Garmin gps?

My new gps from garmin nuvi says it comes with lifetime fm traffic subscription but there is no code to activate it. I already went to the website and it only shows how to activate it if you purchased a subscription recently. Yet when I try to use the feature it says I must go to the website to obtain a code. Anyone know how this pos works?
