How much would the initial cost of GIS software and GPS instrumentation to start a small Mapping business?

Kiah: I’m a civil engineer who has survey, mapping and GIS experience. Contact or visit a surveying supply outlet, who should be happy to show you what equipment you will need and what software is compatible. Two of the most popular GIS programs are ArcView GIS and ARC/INFO by ESRI (link below). Bentley Systems’ InRoads (second link below) is a popular mapping and civil engineering design program used by most highway departments, the FHWA and Army Corps of Engineers.
Keep in mind that certain types of surveying and mapping are regulated by state boards of registration for professional engineers and surveyors. Go to the NCEES link below for links to the boards in your state. Mike
