Is it a bad idea to buy an older model of a GPS from Garmin?

I was just wondering if most things with their GPS units had to do with new software or hardware. I’m looking for great, full featured navigation. As in lane guidance and fast rerouting, stuff like that.

In my opinion, it’s not a good idea to buy an older model of Garmin. Right now many other new models with full advanced function as you mentioned. And also they’re with legal map, such as Eonon. And it’s quite affordable. Now it’s with up to 40% for Christmas. Good luck! Linda

why buy an old one for a high price or the same price that you can get a new gps for? buying new is the same price. you can get a new one from newelectronx for the same cost. SpitFire

Well the newer ones have different software and hardware. In terms of software the newer ones will have the latest(or at least close to latest) maps. Even if it doesnt have the newest maps, if you buy a Garmin new from an authorize seller then Garmin will let you update the maps within *I think* first 90 days for free. The Nuvi’s ending with “5″ tell you the speed limits on major roads, the 7X5 models are the ones that give you lane guidance.

In terms of hardware the models that end with “5″ have a faster processor which means it can calculate routes faster and draw maps faster. Also they have HotFix which simply means it locates a satellite faster from a cold boot.

So yes it probably would be a bad idea to buy an older model because it simply wouldnt have the features you are looking for. If you really want lane guidance I suggest you check out the Nuvi 775& curtie2486
