I think buying a Garmin Nuvi 770 and add the memory card of countries you wish to visit would be your best solution.
You can also consider purchasing a TomTom 930 which also includes map of NA and EU.

If you travel to Canada, Mexico more, you can purcahse the Garmin

Garmin GPS systems are very good and easy to work with. The nuvi series is the kind of GPS for a car and comes with the US already uploaded into the memory. I believe most of the systems have an SD memory card slot. You can then buy memory cards for other areas of the world such as Africa, South America, Europe, ect. you can check out their website at
