Homey asked:

In the name of National Security, say in the near future a medical company offers Miniature GPS tracking systems that can be injected into a person without any discomfort or maybe awareness at youth. This is a very realistic way for parents to know their child’s location. Is this ethically right, is it okay? Should we have that knowledge?

You can do that now with cell phones.

heck no, but that’s how these things always start out

plates on cars used to be just for criminals

social security cards/numbers were promised to never be used in the manner they are being used now … etc etc etc

IF it ever happens, 2 or 3 days later there will be a person out there that has figured out a way to find the people with them and let them know they have been “tagged”, which will lead to someone else figuring out a way to remove them. Don’t sweat it :) ))))))

Probably not, but it is destined to happen. When idea’s like this begin, it is in the name of security. But if the wrong person or person’s get a hold of the information, it could be bad. Just think it you put it only in children, then a Hacker/Black-Market-Agency got involved, they would have access to the location of lots of little one’s.

The near future? Try right now… That technology is not only already available, but it is also used. Should it be legal? Sure, but only used on a voluntary basis, and never required or mandated by law.

It doesn’t matter if it’s legal or not. The government can already see where you are within one square yard of accuracy by your cell phone. They can also listen to what you say via your cell phone even when you’re not making a call.
