Does in-car Bluetooth make a bluetooth feature on a portable GPS somewhat redundant?

I had my GPS hidden in the closed console, and there was no damage to my car. It just was missing one day. All of it, the suction cup, charger and GPS.
I guess my next one will have to go with me whenever I leave the car or locked in the glovebox.
And I ALWAYS lock my doors!
