I might buy one with my dad because we had a lot of fun geocaching together with a friend’s GPS.

i’d recommend the garmin etrex series. either a legend or a vista would be great for you. you can elect to get either in a color screen model or not, but either way, you’d be spending between $120 and $200.
    enjoy!

in response to the other poster: Nextel phones CAN be used off road. In fact Trimble (the leader in professional grade GPS) makes software packages for Nextel phones called Trimble Outdoors which is specifically intended for hiking and GeocacheNavigator specifically designed for geocaching, which is the asker’s intended use.

It really depends on what you need the Gps device for. There are many Gps devices. A good Gps that I Have personally used is the Magellan explorist 200. I got it for 70 bucks in . There are more advanced gps devices. A nother gps device that I use is my Nextel phone. Most of Nextel’s phones have a built in gps receiver. A nextel phone is only good for roads and street directions.
