Garmin and Magellan are some manufacturers that have products worth looking at.

I own a Garmin E-Trex Ledgend model GPS unit. I’m satisfied with its combination of features and price.

I suggest your husband (and you) read a book to learn how GPS units work, what their strengths are and how to best use them to navigate.

GPS Units are available for sale from stores that sell hiking/camping/hunting equipment, such as Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS), Cabelas, Natchez Shooter’s Supply, L.L. Bean and others. Even Walmart and Target may sell them.

I have a preference for the Garmin brand of GPS’s.Work well and are not complicated at all. My first was the cheapest they made, and it worked great.I consider the GPS the greatest tool that I have in my hunting and scouting. Your husband will use this more then any other piece of hunting equipment he has ever had.It will open up the entire woods for him to hunt in.He can mark any good hunting spot and go back to it in the dark. And he can get back to his starting point and not walk 10 steps out of his way.He can go as far has he wishes in the woods, shoot a deer just at dark, track his deer as far as it goes, then go straight back to his stand or return to his vehicle and retrieve his game or get help and lead them straight to it. Or use his 4- wheeler to get it out.It will save him miles of walking each hunting season. I could go on forever, but let me give you these tips- learn to operate it well before hunting season- always carry a compass for back up- never had to rely on anything but the GPS, but you never know. And always carry an extra set of batteries. And I highly recommend the Garmin brand. The lower end models will work fine for hunting.
