    i like to use a hand held garmin gps and paper maps.

    I’ve had very good success with a Garmin Zumo. Waterproof, portable, very easy installation onto your bike,lots of extra software available (off road, boating, hiking etc) and relatively inexpensive. But, I’ve had some of my best experiences when I get “lost” :)
