  1. Chris says:

    GPS is using the GPS satellites to know where you are. GPRS is a type of wireless (cell phone) network. If you meant to ask what’s the difference between GSM and GPRS, GPRS is a data protocol that runs over a GSM network. Basically its just a method used to transmit data over radio.

    GPS = Global Positioning System, A navigational system involving satellites and computers that can determine the latitude and longitude of a receiver on Earth by computing the time difference for signals from different satellites to reach the receiver

    GPRS = General Packet Radio Services is a packet-based wireless communication service and continuous connection to the Internet for mobile phone and computer users.

    Yes You can!

    GPS = Global Positioning system

    GPRS = General Packet Radio System
    EDGE = A faster version of GPRS
    3G = a faster version of EDGE/GPRS

    GPS lets the phone know where it is in the world to a few meters
    (The phone may have it built in, or you can get a Blutooth add on)

    GPRS is a way to get data/internet to the phone.

    So a map program like Google Maps., will use both
    GPS to know where you are
    GPRS/3G to get the map off the internet and show it to you. (like on your PC)

    DO make sure you have a data plan on your phone if you plan to use the internet/data services.
