What kind of moron thinks that the trapped miners should be given GPS devices?
Several people have been suggesting that “the mining company refuses to pay for GPS tracking devices for miners to wear”… How can people be so STUPID? They refuse to pay for them because they are totally useless… GPS doesn’t work underground, in fact NOTHING works at the depth these miners are. Dang, I hate stupid people that don’t know to shut up.

It’s just way our media works: wait till something goes wrong, then start blaming people for not pursuing a ridiculous prevention measure…
First of all, it’s a shame that they have to wait for a horrible accident to happen in order to ‘think’ of ways to keep these people safe. They have a very dangerous job and everyone knows that.
And you’re right, they’re way too far underground to have the GPS work at all. You’d think ‘they’ could make it a priority to come up with something to give the miners a peace of mind if something happens that somehow they can get to them. Alot easier said than done, but how many more people have to lose their lives before a solution is put into place??
My heart and prayers go out to the family’s of the 6 trapped, as now the efforts are ’suspended’ in light of the others that just got hurt and 3 of those rescuers have died. How very very sad.
Lack of information with plenty of open mouth, I guess. It’s a sad story as the tragedy increases with 3 rescue workers killed as another portion of the mine collapses.
But anyway, people look for answers to why things happened the way they did, but on the way they start playing the blame game. Even with GPS, if it did work underground, how would it have helped men who were killed instantly? Some tragedies are unavoidable and no one is to blame when earthquakes happen and the earth shifts.
Mining is very risky – always has been and probably always will be.
I can just imagine during a press conference the guy would say we wanted to have GPS and a reporter would say you do know GPS doesnt work underground.
To answer your question it was proberly George Bush.
