Get a Tom Tom!
There are tons of PND available and they are all pretty good, but to play it safe, stick with the top 3 GPS manufacturers and you should be o.k.
I would recommend for you to consider the Garmin Nuvi 260W 4.3″ display, NA coverage with Text to speech ability. No Bluetooth but this unit is a deal at $239,99
Than consider the TomTom ONE XL 330-S which also offers a 4.3″ display with Text to speech feature only for $299.99 a great deal.
Last but probably one of the most full feature GPS you can buy at the $299 price will be the Magellan Maestro 4250, it comes with voice command, Text to Speech, Bluetooth hands free, Full North America map, AAA tour book and a 4.3″ display. This is the best deal going currently if you wish to have it all for under $300
Not sure which one will meet your requirements? rent one from GPS4Rent at and test drive as many of these as you wish.
Hope this helps
