You’ll get everything you need with your new GPS.
The units are typically powered by Battery. Depending on the GPS, it may or may not be included with it. Some have the battery built in and it just needs charging (like a cellphone).
They always come with a power cord, and often one that can be used in the car (via the cigarette lighter)
Once connected and turned on, it will take a few seconds to about a minute for the GPS to lock on to your position. The simplest way to explain what it does is, it looks for multiple GPS satelites in the sky and based on the strength and direction the signals are coming from calculates your position on Earth (often with accuracy of just a few feet).
The GPS will likely have maps pre-programmed in, so other than charge the battery, you won’t need to do anything else to use the unit. Some allow you to download local/regional maps with more detail, points of interest, etc. This is done through the computer, but is often optional and sometimes this information for the entire country is pre-loaded onto the GPS.
There’s a lot of other features available with GPS’s if you want, look for these features. They’ll often come on more expensive units.:
– Multiple Voices
– MP3 Playback Ability
– Communication with a network for up to date traffic/weather
– Voice Recognition
The GPS companies have really succeeded in making these complex units very simple to use and operate, and they’re so popular that if you have some trouble, surely you’ll have a friend who knows or can figure it out with you.
they come with being portable, with radio, mounted in dash, touchscreen and other ways. You will not want to install if you know so little. You will get used to using whichever you decide after a couple of weeks. the best is dash mounted touchscreen that is voice activated. price is 200.00-5000.00
