I had a cheaper brand GPS that I got for Christmas a few years back and it’s crappy because they don’t offer road updates…I just wanted to know if there was a gps that I could get that would run me $100 or less preferably that has these updates that will update locations and roads etc for free?? THANKS!

There are none, at least that I have heard of. Maps are copyrighted content (only 2 or 3 companies make maps for GPS systems), and cost money.

The only way you would have a GPS system be good and sell cheap, is if it required you buy the software and maps separate, or you had to subscribe to a service.

The only way you could get maps and other things “free”, is if you paid quite a bit up front. classicsat

I was personally looking for the same thing and then turned to a friend for help who was using a GPS from a company called Newelectronx. We were in her car and it seemed to work very good. She was playing the music from the GPS as we drove to the mall. Any ways, I like the turn by turn directions so much that I asked here where she got it from and what it was called. 2 months later I got mine, and I must say I’m in love with it. If you don’t want to ever get another cheap GPS like the ones on the shelf at walmart target best buy then check out the one I have been happy with. It comes with great tech support. I have asked the company some silly questions and they have patiently answered them all. Any ways you can yahoo search it. They are on the web. It is called Primo or something like that. Anyways take care. Debbie Kim

What you are looking for is a GPS with lifetime map updates. There are several on the market at various prices. You may want to check out and click on the various GPS brands ie. Garmin, TomTom and Magellan. They provide comparison charts of all the models of the various brands allowing you to compare features of each. Hope this helps your quest. Mike P
