Why would someone equip a dog with a radio/gps lock collar and paint numbers on it’s sides out in the country?

The dog wandered onto our farm this morning—the painted numbers disturbed us a bit and so we are hesitant to hand over the animal until making sure this isn’t something bad but we have called the contact number with no answer. Looks to be in good health, hungry, thirsty and really friendly–no signs of abuse and really wants in the house. Any help would be welcome!

Tracking dog got away from handler?

That does sound really strange but given that you’ve said that the dog is fine and happy then he or she comes from a good home, I’m assuming that the phone number had an answering machine. My guess is this dog is either working or competing and got lost somehow. There’s probably a frantic owner out there trying to find him right now and they’ll contact you when they come in for the night.

Only one other query, do you happen to know of any animal testing facility in your area? That’s the only other explanation I can come up with.

I’d love to know what happens with this story when it’s all worked out.

It could be people who are paranoid about losing the dog! I know if I was ever to let my dog wander, I’d want to put some kind of tracking system on. As we live in a town, this isn’t a problem, and he prefers to stay with us on walks.

I’d ring the owners, and let them pick up the dog. Keep a note of the number/any addresses, and if you have any concerns then ring up someone in a local animal department.

If it’s in good health, and appear looked after, then it has a good home, and it should remain there!

Its a hunting dog. Sometimes they get seperated from their owners. These people obviously want their dog back.

    Make sure it does.

    DUH?
Turned loose to HUNT. Number to identify in competition hunt(coon, most likely),collar to locate.

    It’s a hunting dog.

Obviously one that it’s owner wants back.
